Project Baseball: Parts 6 & 7
The day started just before 10 AM, when the 7 train went out of service at 111 Street, one stop before Shea Stadium, leaving me to walk the rest of the way and finding intense stomach discomfort once I got there -- and not just from a lousy ballgame.
The day ended with me griping about Jorge Posada and the difficulty of being a fan of a team that can never hope to exceed expectations because the expectations are for perfection.
Still, deep down, I had fun, thanks largely to the fact that, hey, it's baseball, and I was with good people. A little more beer would have helped, though.

Words To Live By
"I'm CT. And I win the life shield. All the time."
If you're not watching the Real World/Road Rules Challenge, you're missing the consistently best bad show on all of television.

Pregame Entertainment
I'm still alive and well and all that, just haven't been updating here lately.
Just thought I'd share what I've seen this season in baseball clubhouses...

Project Baseball: Part 5
The pre-game notes on my scorecard read: "The last time the Yankees won a game 19-8, they didn't win another one for six months."
Well, they followed up their 19-run outburst on Monday with a pitiful two against the Devil Rays last night in the Bronx. It was Game 5 of Project Baseball and Caroline extended her all-time Yankee Stadium record to "4-0." I'm now determined that she'll see the Yankees win a game.

Project Baseball: Part 4

Eggs a la Caroline. I'd say it makes a perfect pregame meal, except that it still needs to be cooked and, to be honest, the eggs were a Saturday food, and Game 4 of Project Baseball was on Sunday...

Nuke-u-lar

It's been busy times lately, but I like to keep things at least a little fresh here. So, I'm just wondering, what the heck is nuclear medicine?

A word of advice: Don't go to Shea Stadium for a night game in April unless you really, really mean it.

Goodbye, Productivity!
I have downloaded Tetris to my cell phone.
So much for me ever getting anything done ever again.

Rollin' In The Benz

I'm just going to assume this is Carlos Beltran's Mercedes parked in my neighborhood for absolutely no reason. Sure, he's in Atlanta, so why wouldn't he leave his car to a friend up here?

Project Baseball: Parts 1 & 2
My goal for this season is to see all 30 Major League Baseball teams live and in person. I've got tickets to see 29 of them in New York and plans to see the other (the Texas Rangers) in Philadelphia in June. Tuesday and yesterday marked the opening of the project... and away we go!

Out of the Pool
The final pool results...
Morton Witherspoon: 116 points
Me: 75
Mom: 69
Caroline: 61
Casey: 59
Congratulations to Morton and apologies to Casey for mucking with his picks, but he wouldn't have beaten Morton in this year when he got three of the Final Four, both finalists and the champion.

Ultimate Loser
Congratulations to Morton Witherspoon for winning the pool and UNC for the title.

For Openers
Well, thank goodness. The Yankees are champions of April 3, erasing all that happened last October. Wait a minute, since last October never happened, what am I talking about?
Anyway...

Time Ghouls
I was just at the gym and CNN was on the TV above my treadmill.
You know nothing good is going on when they've got the current time displayed on the screen for some far off time zone. In this case, it was the time in Rome.
I don't know why I'm bothered by that. Maybe it's the natural corollary that if CNN had access to a time machine, they'd get the relevant information and have a countodwn clock up there with "John Paul II: Time To Live," right down to the second.
Or maybe my brain is just completely warped. Either way, I hope the Pope, as I would hope for anyone in their final hours, isn't in pain.

Harry the K?
I just saw a commercial for a movie called "Kung Fu Hustle," which sounds cool enough in itself, but the best part of the ad may have been at the end, when a voice-over said "Kung Fu Hustle!" It sounded just like Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas.
Until told otherwise, I'm going to assume it was him and hope that he becomes the new movie commercial announcer.
(UPDATE: It is indeed Harry the K! Thanks, Haggs, for passing that along.)

Pictures 47: Birthday Walk
Wednesday was my birthday (whoo!) and the meteorological aspect of the day was lovely, so I went for a walk around the greater Astoria/Long Island City area and took some pictures. (The rest of the day was excellent as well, but that has nothing to do with these pictures.)
