05/11/2005: "Project Baseball: Parts 10 & 11"

And all of a sudden, all is well at Yankee Stadium again. Three games in five days, and the Yankees win all three, part of a five-game winning streak for the Bombers.

That makes 11 games already, an absurd total that'll only get absurder...

May 10
Mariners at Yankees

Seats: Loge Box 444 (on the third base side)
Who I Went With: Andy, Caroline and Eric
Hot Dogs: 2
Beers: 1
Game Highlight: Tino Martinez's two-run homer was his fourth in as many days and gave the Yankees the lead on the way to a 7-4 win.
It Was Over When: It was over. Caroline was in the building, so it was jittery until Mariano Rivera got the final out. But, for the first time, she saw the Yankees win a game.
Go To The Ballpark & See Something You've Never Seen Before: Aside from Caroline seeing the Yankees win, and Chien-Ming Wang getting his first victory in the big leagues, there wasn't much. But Adrian Beltre turning a simple rundown into a run for the Yankees when he threw the ball into center field was one of the worst errors I've ever seen.

May 11
Mariners at Yankees

Seats: Tier Reserved, Section 3 (behind home plate)
Who I Went With: Eric
Hot Dogs: 1
Beers: 0
Game Highlight: Tino Martinez's fifth straight day with a homer generated another curtain call and brought the Yanks even at 9-all on the way to a 13-9 win.
It Was Over When: It was over. You never know when Yogi Berra is on hand to throw out the first pitch.
Go To The Ballpark & See Something You've Never Seen Before: Eight home runs in one game, four by each team. And I don't think I've ever seen a first inning so wild -- both teams scored five runs. The two starters gave up a combined 15 runs, and neither one was involved in the decision.
