05/09/2005: "Project Baseball: Part 9"
I had tickets for Sunday's game, but since it was Mother's Day, I gave those seats away and went on Saturday.
I wound up writing about it for the Daily News, and had a great time covering a Major League Baseball game for the first time.
May 7
Athletics at Yankees
Seats: Press Box
Who I Went With: The Assembled Media
Hot Dogs: 2
Beers: 0
Game Highlight: Alex Rodriguez's two-run double with two outs in the third inning put the Yankees up 4-0 on their way to a 5-0 win and seemed like the first time in weeks that they got a big two-out hit, even though it probably wasn't.
It Was Over When: Jason Kendall flied out and Eric Chavez flied out to left field to end the sixth inning after the Athletics had runners on first and second with nobody out against Mike Mussina. They didn't get a runner past second base all afternoon.
Go To The Ballpark & See Something You've Never Seen Before: Gary Sheffield's totally and completely uncontested stolen base in the eighth inning that led to the Yanks' final run. I've seen guys steal bases easily before, but this was insane -- he had a good three steps before Justin Duchscherer even started his motion.
