05/04/2005: "Notebook Poetry: Willie Randolph"
Last year, I went through an old notebook and came up with some odd poetry.
This time, I just wrote down selected bits of Mets manager Willie Randolph's pregame press conference today at Shea Stadium. There are two poems, which I'll call "Page 2" and "Page 3" because they're the second and third pages of my notes from the press conference.

Feeling Cliff with health
worked real hard
strong
feel he was really motivated
felt he's capable
anytime
expect big years
should be more and more
watching him come together
talk about Jose Reyes
grasp it
better
slowly
all of a sudden
takes a lot of time
babies
gotta be patient
exactly
that can happen
to me, it's a skill
see the ball
Page 3
hope they adapt
takes years
comfortable hitting
2 strikes
takes a while
I was doing
Little league
100 walks a year
not taught that
all the time
being aggressive
make money
SportsCenter
very few guys
have good eyes
looking for a walk
