04/14/2005: "Project Baseball: Part 3"
A word of advice: Don't go to Shea Stadium for a night game in April unless you really, really mean it.
April 13
Astros at Mets
Seats: Upper Reserved, Section 5 (behind home plate)
Who I Went With: Caroline, who deserves a medal for not audibly cursing me out for bringing her to the Meat Locker by the Sound
Hot Dogs: 2
Beers: 0 (It would have frozen)
Game Highlight: Actually, it was after the game, when Mets fans in the mezzanine level could be seen dancing in a circle (presumably to resume circulation) and singing "Jose! Jose, Jose, Jose!" like the soccer cheer "Ole! Ole, Ole, Ole!" to celebrate Jose Reyes' game-winning hit. It was the first time in years that I've seen and heard jubilation like that at Shea. And it was a great game, just frigid.
It Was Over When: Reyes' grounder up the middle snuck under the glove of pitcher Dan Wheeler for an RBI single in the 11th inning. Final score: 1-0, Mets.
Go To The Ballpark & See Something You've Never Seen Before: Well, I had never seen a scoreless game go to extra innings before, or Roger Clemens in an Astros jersey, but the oddity of this game came early on when Mets pitcher Kaz Ishii missed a pitchout sign and Mike Piazza had to lunge backwards to stop the ball from causing great harm to the umpire's personal regions.
Click here to read more about the game, in a story that commits the cardinal sin of not mentioning the score... yeesh.
