04/07/2005: "Project Baseball: Parts 1 & 2"

My goal for this season is to see all 30 Major League Baseball teams live and in person. I've got tickets to see 29 of them in New York and plans to see the other (the Texas Rangers) in Philadelphia in June. Tuesday and yesterday marked the opening of the project... and away we go!

April 5
Red Sox at Yankees

Seats: Tier Reserved, Section 16 (right over third base)
Who I Went With: Nobody
Hot Dogs: 3
Beers: 1
Game Highlight: Derek Jeter's homer leading off the bottom of the ninth gave the Yankees a 4-3 win after Mariano Rivera let the Red Sox tie it on a homer by Jason Varitek in the top of the inning.
It Was Over When: Jeter homered.
Go To The Ballpark & See Something You've Never Seen Before: All four extra-base hits in the game were homers; Carl Pavano struck out Trot Nixon, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz and Kevin Millar in the first two innings.

April 6
Red Sox at Yankees

Seats: Tier Reserved, Section 18 (just behind third base)
Who I Went With: Caroline
Hot Dogs: 1
Beers: 1
Game Highlight: The Red Sox scored five runs off Rivera in the ninth inning to avoid a sweep with a 7-3 win. Only one of the runs was earned, but it was one of Rivera's worst performances.
It Was Over When: Alex Rodriguez's error turned a game-ending double play ball into a tie game with the bases loaded and still one out. The Red Sox went on to score four more runs.
Go To The Ballpark & See Something You've Never Seen Before: Running on a 3-2 pitch, Johnny Damon was caught stealing second base even though Trot Nixon drew a walk. Damon was ruled out, I presume, for coming off the base.

Season Totals (2 Games)
Teams Seen: Red Sox (1-1), Yankees (1-1)
Hot Dogs: 4
Beers: 2
