02/16/2005: "Pictures 37: Walk to Greenpoint"
About two weeks ago, the weather was beautiful, so I took a long walk. By the time it was over, I had gone about five miles, from Astoria to Williamsburg. I also took some pictures along the way, feeling rather like a stranger in a strange land. It's often like that when you walk through an industrial area, especially for the first time. This was my first time crossing over Newtown Creek, which divides Queens and Brooklyn at their westernmost points, on foot.

What happens if you're walking over a drawbridge and it starts to open? I don't want to find out.

The last one is some kind of Sanitation facility... there's a water treatment on the edge of the creek. I labeled this the "Sanitation Kremlin." Welcome to Brooklyn, SSR.
