12/03/2004: "Pictures 11: Talk To Me, Goose"
Tired of all the steroid talk?
Well, here are some pictures of geese on a baseball field.

I took these pictures at Whitey Ford Field in Astoria, where I wound up when I was looking for Astoria Park and didn't walk far enough north. I'm kind of glad I didn't -- I was surprised I could get this close to birds without scaring them away.

You spurred me to look it up... they're Canada Geese which spend their winters in the U.S.

I somehow thought they flew farther south... you always see them in the fall, flying south. maybe they just fly south from canada, over massachusetts, then stop in queens.

Have you ever noticed the geese which swim on the other side of the Hudson?
Right across from midtown.
They sleepswim at night. It is fascinating to watch.
